Sampling Rate by Active Channels:
The maximum real-time sampling rate depends on the number of active analog channels:
| Active Analog Channels | Maximum Sample Rate |
|---|---|
| 1 Channel | 1.25GSa/s |
| 2 Channels | 625MSa/s |
| 3–4 Channels | 312.5MSa/s |
This channel-dependent sampling architecture allows the oscilloscope to allocate its acquisition resources according to the number of active channels.
4 Analog + 16 Digital Channels:
The DHO914 combines four analog oscilloscope channels with support for 16 digital logic channels, making it useful for mixed-signal debugging.
The digital channels can be used to observe and correlate signals such as:
-
GPIO
-
Digital clocks
-
PWM
-
SPI
-
I²C
-
UART
-
RS232
-
CAN
-
LIN
-
Digital control signals
Important: The 16 digital channels require the optional RIGOL PLA2216 logic analyzer probe. They are not 16 additional analog oscilloscope inputs.
12-Bit Vertical Resolution:
The DHO914 uses a 12-bit ADC, providing 4096 quantization levels. Compared with a conventional 8-bit oscilloscope with 256 levels, the higher vertical resolution allows finer measurement of voltage changes and improved visualization of smaller signal variations within the selected voltage range.
This is particularly useful for power electronics, sensor signals, analog circuits, embedded systems, and other applications where small waveform variations need to be observed.
High-Speed Waveform Capture:
With UltraAcquire mode, the DHO914 can capture up to 1,000,000 waveforms per second. A high waveform capture rate increases the opportunity to observe intermittent events, glitches, signal abnormalities, and other waveform behavior that may be missed during slower acquisition.
Deep Memory:
The DHO914 provides up to 50Mpts memory depth in single-channel operation. Memory allocation varies with the number of active analog channels:
-
Single channel: up to 50Mpts
-
Two channels: up to 25Mpts
-
Three or four channels: up to 10Mpts
Deep memory is useful for capturing longer waveform records while maintaining detailed signal information.
Peak Detection:
The oscilloscope provides peak detection capability for capturing short-duration waveform abnormalities and glitches as short as approximately 1.6ns, helping engineers investigate transient events that may otherwise be difficult to observe.
Serial Bus Analysis:
The DHO914 can be used for debugging and analyzing digital communication signals when the appropriate decoding functionality and connections are available. This makes it useful for embedded systems using interfaces such as UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, and other supported serial protocols.
DHO914 vs DHO914S:
The DHO914 and DHO914S share core oscilloscope specifications such as 125MHz bandwidth, four analog channels, 16 digital channels, 12-bit resolution, and up to 1.25GSa/s sampling.
| Feature | DHO914 | DHO914S |
|---|---|---|
| Analog Bandwidth | 125MHz | 125MHz |
| Analog Channels | 4 | 4 |
| Digital Channels | 16 | 16 |
| Maximum Sample Rate | 1.25GSa/s | 1.25GSa/s |
| Vertical Resolution | 12-bit | 12-bit |
| Built-in 25MHz AFG | No | Yes |
| Bode Plot | No | Yes |
The DHO914 does not include the built-in 25MHz arbitrary function generator and Bode plot functionality associated with the DHO914S.
