12V DC Electric Solenoid Lock (Big Size)
Order before 12.00PM
The 12V DC Electric Solenoid Lock is a compact electronic locking mechanism designed for cabinets, drawers, doors, safes, access-control systems, and automation projects. BDTronics offers this 12V electric cabinet lock with a durable metal body and solenoid mechanism that provides a simple electrically controlled locking and unlocking solution.
This solenoid lock uses an electromagnetic coil and metal armature. In its normal state, the locking bolt remains extended without requiring continuous electrical power. When 9–12V DC is applied, the solenoid pulls the armature inward, retracting the locking bolt and allowing the door or cabinet to open. It can be controlled using a relay, transistor, MOSFET driver, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, PLC, keypad, RFID system, or other suitable access-control circuit.

Working Principle:
A solenoid lock contains a copper electromagnetic coil and a movable metal armature. When the coil is not energized, the locking mechanism remains in its default locked position.
When 9–12V DC is supplied to the coil, current flows through the winding and produces a magnetic field. The magnetic field pulls the internal armature, retracting the locking bolt so the connected door or cabinet can be opened.
After the power is removed, the mechanism returns to its normal locked position. This makes the lock suitable for systems where the lock should remain mechanically locked without continuously consuming electrical power.
Microcontroller Control:
The lock can be controlled from an Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, ESP8266, PLC, or other microcontroller, but the controller should not drive the solenoid coil directly.
A suitable relay module, MOSFET driver, or transistor switching circuit should be used between the controller and the 12V solenoid lock. The switching circuit must be rated for the lock's approximately 0.8A operating current.
For transistor or MOSFET switching, use an appropriate flyback diode across the solenoid coil to suppress the voltage spike generated when the inductive coil is switched off.

-

Installation Guidelines:
-
Mount the lock body securely to the cabinet, door, or enclosure.
-
Align the locking bolt with the corresponding opening or strike position.
-
Ensure the door can close without excessive pressure against the locking mechanism.
-
Use a regulated 12V DC power supply capable of supplying the required current.
-
Use a relay, MOSFET, or suitable driver when connecting the lock to a microcontroller.
-
Do not connect the 0.8A solenoid directly to a typical Arduino or Raspberry Pi GPIO pin.
-
Because the solenoid is specified for intermittent operation, avoid continuous energization unless the actual installation has been evaluated for coil temperature.
-
Keep the mechanical locking mechanism properly aligned to prevent unnecessary load on the solenoid.
Important Notes:
This is a normally locked, power-to-unlock solenoid lock. The locking mechanism remains in its normal locked position when the coil is not energized, while applying DC power retracts the bolt.
The stated 0.25KG holding force is a mechanical specification and should not be interpreted as a complete security rating for a door or safe. The overall strength of an installed locking system also depends on mounting, door construction, alignment, strike design, and mechanical loading.
The supplied specification states 9–12V DC operation, with 12V DC rated voltage, 0.80A current, and 9.6W power. Use the specified voltage and avoid overvoltage.
